In reality, HP should’ve made sure that its iPAQ Data Messenger shipped alongside the Voice Messenger back in December, but given that it didn’t, we suppose it’s a small victory that the handset is finally up for pre-order in the UK today. Of course, getting any halfway intelligent Briton to spend £419 ($593) on this already forgotten WinMo 6.1 device (with Mobile World Congress just weeks away, no less) is a challenge we’re thrilled to not be responsible for.

While the Viviene Tam Edition Mini 1000 sure was pretty, it’s hardly what you’d call “new.” According to undisclosed sources cited by the always questionable DigiTimes, Hewlett-Packard is toying with the idea of bringing a few new infants to market in the Mini-note line. If all goes to plan, a WWAN-enabled Mini-note 2150 (13.3-inch, presumably) will hit the scene in early June. For what it’s worth, a new 11.6-inch model is also mentioned, and as expected, the whole crew (however large) is apt to arrive with Intel Atom’s within

An integrated, secondary display is the HP FireFly’s highlight, especially for those who love widgets. Inside, you’ll find “dual graphics cards, quad-core processor and what they call 5.1 sound.”

We know it’s a little easy to lose track of time with the world’s craziest consumer electronics show steaming ahead, but today actually is January 9th. The meaning of that? HP’s two Firebird gaming towers are go for purchase. Both the Firebird with VoodooDNA 802 and 803 are available for purchase right now, with starting prices pegged at $1,799 and $2,099, respectively. The primary difference between the stock configurations are the CPUs (a 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad versus 2.83GHz Core 2 Quad), the hard drives (2 x 250GB verses 2 x 320GB), the sound card (the 803 has a Creative X-Fi mini-PCI audio card) and the fact that the 803 comes packed with a slot-loading Blu-ray drive. That magical “Mi” shell for Ubuntu that HP’s built for its new Mini 1000 netbooks is now available for order (as rumored), with configurations starting at $330 for the 9-inch version. Since it’s a custom build, it’ll take about nine days to ship, but the gift of commercialized open source is forever. If you’re still unconvinced, be sure to check out our hands-on look from a few months ago.

We figured it was destined for a CES release, and HP has confirmed that today’s the day. The hotly anticipated Firebird with Voodoo DNA has been properly introduced to the world, and within it will come an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, twin NVIDIA GeForce 9800S graphics cards in an SLI configuration, hot-swappable 320GB hard drives (two of ‘em) and an advanced thermal management system to keep things cool, calm, collected and quiet. As we’d heard, the rig will be available starting on January 9th for as little as $1,799 directly from Voodoo, while those too frightened to hand over their credit card information online can hold tight ’til it hits select retailers (read: Best Buy, most likely) on February 1st. Have a look at Rahul Sood and team gloating ad nauseum over this thing just after the break.

Here’s a tiny 2.6-pounder that’s almost small enough to be called a netbook. Its 10.1-inch screen is LED backlit, and with its optional 80-gig solid-state drive and small, low-power Intel Atom processor, it’s packing all the right tech.
Its keyboard isn’t too small, either, it’s 92 percent the size of a full size keyboard. And hey, it’s made of aluminum, making it super-chic. Surprisingly, at the same time, it’s super-cheap, with pricing starting at $499. Available late January.

What’s this? A $40 price cut on an item that’s likely on at least one gift list that you’re currently staring at? Huzzah! Unless, of course, you’re one of those proactive individuals who went out and already nabbed one. In all seriousness, Laptoping has reportedly received an email notification from Hewlett-Packard that the sleek and sexy Mini 1000 netbook will stoop to $359.99 starting tomorrow. That’ll net you an 8.9-inch panel, Atom N270 CPU (1.6GHz), 1GB of RAM, an 8GB SSD, 3-cell battery and Windows XP Home. There’s no word on whether the stylish Vivienne Tam Edition will receive a drop of her own, but we wouldn’t count on it (yet).
