Look at that will you, just look at it. That’s a pair of $50 iFrogz EarPollution DJ Style (heavy on style, light on the DJ) headphones we’ve been testing for the last week. As you can tell by the colors, graphics, faux-chrome accents, and over-the-top bulk, these headphones are meant to communicate a statement just as tersely as they’ll strum your cochlear nerve. If you don’t care about posturing cool, if you’re the type who walks the sidewalk wearing a Bluetooth headset in staunch oblivion to ridicule, well mister these aren’t the headphones for you. For the rest, click through for our expert urban-hipster review honed by years of knee-jerked responses to trends, ironic facial hair, and a taste for thrift-store clothing. With cred like that, how could we be wrong?

Luxury headphone company V-Moda is known for its innovative style and has recently launched its newest model, the Vibe II with hands-free microphone. One thing you can be sure about is that these headphones are extremely durable and will last you a very long time. With a price of $128, they had better be this durable. They are comfortable for any ear size due to the medical-grade silicone fittings which come in four sizes along with the Vibe IIs. Good news is that they are compatible with almost all Apple products and devices with a 3.5mm jack, like the Blackberry Bold, Curve and Storm. You can expect rich bass, clear notes and state-of-the-art acoustics here making the sound quality exceptional.

Ultrasone has never been one to pop out low-end cans, but its latest model is decidedly luxurious. The Edition 8 headphones employ the company’s S-Logic Plus technology for an “impartial acoustic feeling that allows the listener even more of a spacious tonal perception.” These were created with the “audio connoisseur” in mind, with the interior ear cups covered in fine Ethiopian sheepskin (something that Sir Dave Chappelle would argue does not help sound quality) and the outer ear cups doused in Ruthenium. Each set is individually stamped and arrives in a leather case for storage, but you’ll be asked to hand over a whopping $1,499 before you indulge.

Sherwood made a small splash at the show with a few interesting debuts. For anyone who wants to enjoy movie soundtracks without blowing out the neighbors or even bugging the SO, the DHP-2003 headphones are your saving grace. They’re wireless too, so your SO can’t even complain about the cable running across the floor. To create a realistic surround experience, they incorporate Dolby Headphone, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II processing. The frequency response is 30Hz - 20kHz, and they’ll run for 6.5 hours on a single charge. More than enough for a Batman double-feature. It will retail for $149.95. Want to show the wife what it’s all about? The DPH-2004 packages two headphones for just $209.95.
Sherwood also was showing off a table-top Internet radio device. The IR-2702 has a built-in WiFi receiver, but it also has good old-fashioned FM radio. It has the ubiquitous iPod dock and also a USB input. Speakers have a satisfactory 5 watts per channel. This jacked-up clock radio will retail for $209.95

Earbuds were all over the place this year - cheap, almost disposable ones with a sound to match, or incredibly high-end devices with prices that practically hurt. Hitting a nice sweet spot are the Shure SE115 earphones.
At just $99, they’re the most affordable in Shure’s line of sound-isolating buds. Yup — under $100 for sound-isolating. They come with Shure’s fit kit with interchangeable earphone options so you can get as much isolation (and bass-response created from a proper fit) as possible. They come in blue, red, black, or hot pink. The earphones are compatible with Apple iPhone and BlackBerry Curve.

In a world of plastic, throw-away gear, audio-technica is bringing out headphones with a very distinctive difference. They use wooden housings, bringing a luxurious sense of quality that plastic just can’t compete with.
The ATH-EW9 are clip-on headphones with a housing made of Hokkaido cherry wood. Not a crappy wood veneer, but real Japanese cherry. They’ll retail for $329.95.
The over-ear ATH-ESW9A headphones are designed for high-end performance. The housings on these are made from African paddock wood, supposedly contributing not just to the aesthetics, but giving them “superior acoustic reproduction.”
Rounding out the wooden lineup is the over-the-top ATH-W5000. Absolutely gorgeous, with a striped ebony housing, these are quite the lookers. This is a closed-back dynamic design with a 53mm neodymium driver. The freq. response is 5Hz to 45,000 Hz - now that is impressive. Not nearly as impressive as the price tag. They’ll set you back $1,699.95. But, it includes a hard-shell case and cable bag. That’s the least they can do at that price!

Samsung swept into CES this year like an alien invasion. Tucked away beneath its awards, massive booth presence, and disrupter blast of products is this sexy Bluetooth earpiece. The Capella (shown tucked inside the receiver) is meant to be worn as a fashion accessory. Hey, that’s what they say. And at the risk of being juiced by a Martian, well, we’re not going to argue.
