Yet again, IBuyPower is stepping out with a few new gaming rigs for the bargain-minded among us. The most recent duo to be outed by the company is the Gamer HAF 91B and the Gamer Fire, both of which are based on AMD’s latest Dragon platform and Phenom II CPU. The former gets going at just $999 and includes the Phenom II X4 920 processor, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a 500GB SATA II hard drive, a dual-layer DVD writer, ATI’s 512MB Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, a CoolerMaster HAS 932 case and a 550-watt power supply. The more fiery sibling ups the ante with a Phenom II X4 940 CPU, a 750GB HDD, LG GGC-H20L Blu-ray drive and an NZXT Guardian 921 chassis. ‘Course, you’ll be paying $1,439 for that one, but either way you’ll be keeping things below the evidently magical $1.5k mark. Order away, should you be so inclined.

This is one PC case that looks as though it is a kryptonite-infused meteorite that will turn Superman into an instant weakling if it ever hurtles toward the earth. Dubbed Project Asteroid, it uses the unremarkable Yeong Yang A-101 microATX case that saw all of its unscrewable segments stripped and replaced with Styrofoam, Claycrete and paint. Greenish lights were outfitted last to provide it an out-of-this-world look. Overall a decent effort, but it seems to lack the proper depth in visuals to look like a rock as we still feel it still resembles a fake one.

Those crazy kids over at bit-tech got their hands on SilverStone’s new Raven RV01 PC case and have been kind enough to give us their impressions. The big news here is that the motherboard’s been rotated 90 degrees clockwise, so that your expansion cards are slotted in vertically (they face up, not out the back). This is intended to facilitate cooling — cool air is taken in at the bottom and exhausted through the top of the machine — but as the the reviewer points out, although this “seems the most logical orientation for a high-end PC,” the actual case design is poor enough to rate as fairly frustrating. “For every welcome piece of design,” he writes, “there’s another to annoy.” Cable management is described as nigh on impossible, especially with drive trays and mobo in such close proximity that there isn’t any wiggle room. Judging by all this — and by an appearance that betrays not one wit of “innovation” — you might want to hold off on this bad boy. Someone is sure to take another stab soon, hopefully with a package that is nowhere near as goofy looking. Available now in the UK for £171.35 MSRP and Stateside for $249.99.

This is one of the coolest PC case mods we’ve come across this year (although we’re barely 2 weeks into 2009, but who’s counting?) - the AMD Phenom PC Case that opens up in virtually all directions, boasting a green lighting scheme that’ll surely get your pulse racing. It looks more like a highly modern DJ console deck and gives the illusion that it is able to function as some sort of weapon on the battlefield than a regular high-end gaming computer. For all you know, this could be a hidden Decepticon, biding its time to take over the world.
